Sunvale Community Park, Sunshine
Description
Sunvale Community Park project transformed a portion of the disused Sunvale Primary School to a new Flagship Park, in a part of Sunshine that was lacking in open space.
This park is one of the first Oasis Parks in Brimbank where stormwater is treated in Rain Gardens and then stored underground and used for irrigation. This water can also be used to keep the park and surrounding area cooler during heatwaves.
This project included an important First Nation art work by Mandi Barton and Lee-Anne Clarke titled, The Five Elements. Five sculptural pieces were installed being Spirit (see below), Water, Fire, Air/Wind, and Earth.
This park was designed and delivered by the Urban Design Department at Brimbank City Council.
Budget
The budget for this park was $3.65M and was funded by Brimbank City Council, Victorian Government, Melbourne Water, and Sports & Recreation Victoria.
