Princess Street Upgrade, St Albans

Description

The Princess Street Upgrade formed part of the Errington Precinct Masterplan which Brimbank City Council implemented over a number of years.

Princess Street was transformed into a Shared Zone where people, nature and a new street come together to create a safer and more inviting place, replacing the old, barren street.

Princess Street connects the St Albans Community Centre to St Albans Station while supporting pedestrian movements between various destinations in this precinct. The design references the Bowery Theatre, named in honour of world renown performance artist, Leigh Bowery, who grew up in Sunshine.

Bold painting motifs and lighting create links to the Bowery Theatre, while an increase in tree planting creates a cooler street during warmer months.

This project was design and delivered by the Urban Design Department at Brimbank City Council.

Budget

The budget for this project was $1.2M with funding fromm the state government for crime prevention.
