Creating Streets for People Policy
Description
Creating Streets for People Policy (CSPP) was adopted by Brimbank City Council in 2022.
CSPP vision is to move from service infrastructure and vehicle centred design to place making and people focussed approach. The investment for the future seeks to:
facilitate active transport choices
support community cohesion
and adaptation for the future climate.
Some examples of the above prior to CSPP include the upgrades in Hampshire Road, Sunshine and Princess Street, St Albans.
Community quote
Re Leslie Street Pocket Development Council Project
I wish to express my wholehearted warm best wishes and thank you to the Brimbank City Council, Its councillors and others who supported this project as it has been by all local traders in this precinct and many local people who frequent the Leslie Street Village Street shopping trip for their daily purchasers and services it has come at time that is most timely and much appreciated.
Retail and small retail businesses are the back bone of all local strip shopping precincts that bring real family and locals together as a community group but much more than that, its bring locals to local businesses at a convenient and easy way to make their daily purchases and use the local services such as hairdressers, doctors, chemists, cafes, and many others. What has been most noticeable and obvious since the final touches such as the tree lights and the security down lights have been activated in the past few months is the absolute happiness and a focal point for all locals who come and enjoy both day and night and real sense of I belong here and I love to enjoy this in my own back yard rather than always going to a massive shopping centres of the likes of Highpoint and many others that simply do not have the cosy, friendly and very convenience of the local strip shopping that has always been there but in past times seems to have lost its compass and purpose.
But I can with all honest and humility say that has now starting to change, local people and are saying we are proud to be locals to the Leslie Street Village shopping precinct and enjoy that wonderful new feeling of being happy here and – “ welcome back home again” !
The lights from the tree lights and the security down lights have certainly added a huge dimension to allow use both day and night of the park, also a focal point of direction for others not familiar with the area as Leslie, Aurthur and Taylors Roads is a major connecting point and corner in the western suburbs and in now easily identifiable at this intersection.
To all those people who have made this excellent project happen our collective and sincere thank you and a job well done !!
