Hampshire Road Civic Green, Sunshine
Description
This project transformed a section of Hampshire Road from a car dominated space to a place for people, nature, art and included active transport, as part of the implementation of the Hampshire Road Masterplan.
The masterplan was delivered over a number of years with the aim to support the street based activity centre through improvements to the public realm, increased urban greening and a new active transport network.
The Civic Green stage was designed in partnership with Outlines Landscape Architects and delivered by the Urban Design Department at Brimbank City Council. Another important partner was the world renown Australian sculptor, John Kelly, who worked closely with council to install one of his iconic sculptures titled, Man Lifting Cow.
Budget
The budget for this project was $5.5M with $15.5M invested by Brimbank City Council in delivering the Hampshire Road Masterplan from 2012-2021.
Awards
The Hampshire Road Civic Green project won the following;
2022 Victorian AILA Landscape Architecture Award for Civic Landscape.
2022 Good Design Award for Architectural and Place Design
2021 Mainstreet Australia Award for Main Street Public Space and Streetscape Design Award.
